Thanks to great work by the Bethalto Spirit Beautification Committee and its volunteers, we’ve done it again! After receiving Level 1 Accreditation for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens on Arbor Day 2021, the Bethalto Arboretum has now achieved the award of Level 2!
This is an outstanding and rare accomplishment, as only a handful of arboretums in the state have earned this honor and the Bethalto Arboretum is the only awardee in Southwestern Illinois.
The Bethalto Spirit, Beautification Committee has volunteered tirelessly for the past several years to bring our Arboretum up to this standard. The Arboretum was established in 1966 with the donation of specimen trees from around the country. A new web-based plant identification program will enable visitors to identify the more than 100 varieties of plants and trees in the arboretum.
