For 30 years, the 100-voice Bethalto Spirit Choir and orchestra has entertained residents of the village and surrounding communities with it’s annual Christmas Concert which kicks off the Victorian Christmas Walk on the second Sunday of December.
Under the leadership of founding director Don Clark, the choir and orchestra performed at the former First Baptist Church in the downtown for more than a decade. Don retired after 15 years, and current director Jeff Allsman assumed leadership duties. Don was welcomed back as assistant director a few years ago.
Eventually, the size of the group and audience out-grew the facility and the concert was relocated to alternating sites at the new First Baptist Church location and Cornerstone Church, both on Moreland Road. The concert often features a Children’s Choir and special appearances by choral groups from Civic Memorial and Roxana high schools. Each year, about 750 people attend the Christmas Concert on the second Sunday in December 4 p.m. Check the calendar on the home page to determine the location of this year’s concert!
